San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) February 13, 2005 -- Cross-Industry leaders announced today the launch of the Information Assurance Consortium www.infoassurance.org. The IA Consortiums members will work cooperatively to achieve the vision of creating a genuinely reliable environment in which public and private sectors, including commercial entities, government organizations, and individuals can conduct their affairs in a secure, confident, efficient, and verifiable manner. The IAC is a cross-industry and cross-discipline non-profit business league. It will strive to harmonize past and current efforts, including standards, and work cooperatively with strategically related organizations.

Charter Information Assurance Consortium members include: Innové, TimeCertain, Proofspace, Surety, Authentidate, Cooley Godward, McCarter English, Baker & McKenzie, Wachovia Bank.

Organizations Mission: The IAC is a member driven not-for-profit 501(c)(6) corp. dedicated to educating, promoting awareness, and facilitating the use of trusted information architectures, products and services within and across industry boundaries.

Today in banking, finance, healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing and government many, a growing number of critical and official interactions are being done electronically. Unfortunately, the environment in which these interactions occur may be less than Comprehensively Reliable!", stated Jeff Stapleton, founding chairman of the IA Consortium and the Chief Crypto Architect with Innové, The Information Assurance Consortium was created to accelerate the development of a convenient, interoperable, standards-based, regulatory-compliant environment where electronic interactions can be conducted in a secure, reliable and enforceable manner."

Legal and regulatory mandates are essential considerations as organizations adopt information technology in core functional areas." says Steve Teppler, co-founder of the IAC and CEO of TimeCertain, LLC. What is needed is an organization that can help bridge various discipline gaps, such as those that exist between IT, legal, accounting, finance, infosec, audit, and compliance to facilitate the proper design and employment of processes and technologies that do not compromise business and legal legitimacy. The IAC will help build these bridges."

Members are invited to participate in any of the Information Assurance Consortiums activities, and in so doing add to the collective body of knowledge; members can network with other members, many of whom are experts in their respective fields, in a neutral environment where they can discuss and address technical interoperability, regulatory & legislative activity, and market acceptance issues.

The IAC is becoming a gathering place and very well may become a brain trust for todays and tomorrows critical information and data reliability issues." stated Paul Doyle, co-founder of the IAC and Founder of Proofspace. There few vehicles to bring together attorneys, CEOs, auditors, CFOs, cryptographers, legislators, bankers, marketers, corporate directors and other key stakeholders. The IAC is unique in the way it reaches across the technical, corporate & industry gaps."

As one of its first outreach activities, the IACs Jeff Stapleton will be delivering a briefing on the soon-to-publish ANSI X9.95 Trusted Time-Stamp standard at the semi-annual meeting of the American Bar Associations Information Security Committee. This is a great opportunity for practicing attorneys to understand key emerging technical standards and explore how they will affect the practice and enforcement of law" states Charles Merrill, co-vice-chair of the ABAs InfoSec Committee and Partner at McCarter English. The presentation to the ABAs ISC will be held Sunday, February 19, 2005 at Cooley Goodwards San Francisco. Registration required.
