Federal Prison Camp Closings - The Federal Bureau of Prisons is Seeking to Close Four Federal Prison Camps

Federal Prison Bureau is seeking to close FPC Allenwood in PA, FPC Seymour Johnson in NC, FPC Nellis in NV and FPC Eglin in FL. Budget cuts are blamed for the closings. The Federal Bureau of Prisons is awaiting congressional approval.

(PRWEB) February 14, 2005 -- The Federal Bureau of Prisons has asked for congressional approval to close four Federal Prison Camps that they have deemed to be older facilities. The reason given to the public and Congress is budgetary restraints.

The closings mark a questionable path that the Federal Bureau of Prisons is taking, and why.

In addition, on January 5, 2005, an email memo was sent to all Bureau Facilities by the BOP Director regarding the closing of all the Bureau's ICC programs (Boot Camp) by June 28, 2005. The closing affects the ICC's at Lompoc, CA, Lewisburg, PA, and the women's program at Bryan, TX. All three institutions will be "re-commissioned" as minimum security federal prison camps.

Year after year the federal inmate population increases at record levels. Tension is not only rising within the federal inmate population, but within the administration and staff of the Federal Prison Bureau.
