Esther - A Magical Novel that Tells the Story Behind the Jewish Festival of Purim, Published 21st February 2005

The story of Queen Esther, Mordecai and Haman, beautifully told by British historical author, Norah Lofts, is being reissued by Tethered Camel Publishing for Purim 2005.

(PRWEB) February 15, 2005 -- Norah Lofts magical 1951 re-telling of the story of Queen Esther, Mordecai and Haman is being reissued by Tethered Camel Publishing for Purim 2005.

Artaxerxes (Ahasuerus), King of Persia was a warrior Lord, powerful in battle, excellent in strategy but foolish when it came to dealing with his kingdom.

He allows Haman, an Amelekite and a former slave with a huge chip on his shoulder, to become his trusted advisor and his Queen is so contemptuous of him, he has to banish her.

When the lovely young Jewish girl, Esther, is chosen as his new Queen she is lost in a world of protocol and palace politics; unable to see her husband without his permission or to understand how she should behave. Worse, she has to hide her faith and deny her origins for Haman is an ancient enemy of the Jews, and determined to have his revenge.

By the time the threat to her people is real, Esther and Artaxerxes have quarrelled. Her only hope to avert the holocaust is to risk her own life and go, uninvited, before a King who has already disposed of one unpopular wife.

Esther remains true to the Biblical Book of Esther but expands on the relationships between Esther, Artaxerxes, Haman and Mordecai, explaining how a Jewish girl could be persuaded to 'marry out for the greater good of her people.

Esther is one of a series of classic books being republished by Tethered Camel Publishing in 2005. Our other authors include John Creasey, Joyce Stranger, Monica Dickens and Elizabeth Goudge.
