Kirix Launches Kirix Strata, Dynamic Database for the Linux Desktop

Today at the Linuxworld Conference and Expo in Boston, MA, Kirix unveiled an interactive, dynamic desktop database application for both Windows and Linux. Strata combines the instantaneous computational abilities of a spreadsheet with the large data capacity of a database management system, providing a more effective way to work with and manipulate data.

Kirix Corporation today unveiled its new dynamic database software, Kirix Strata, for Microsoft Windows and the Linux desktop. In addition to the release today, Kirix Strata also wins the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo Product Excellence Award for Best Desktop/Productivity/Business Application.

Like similar desktop database applications, Strata enables users to manipulate data in a graphical environment, create queries and generate reports. However, Strata offers greater data capacity and performance, as well as a unique set of features that provide a more effective way to work with data.

Strata combines the instantaneous computational abilities of a spreadsheet with the capacity of a database management system. With Strata’s dynamic functionality, users can create calculations instantly across an entire data set, combine data from multiple data sets interactively and perform instantaneous, aggregate calculations on groups of related records.

“There is a great difference between flexible, interactive spreadsheets that handle small amounts of data and database management systems that organize and manage large volumes of data,” stated Aaron Williams, Chief Scientist at Kirix. “By bringing together the best of both worlds, Strata not only gives people amazing flexibility with their data, but also lets them work with large data sets well beyond the limitations found in most desktop software.”

“Using Strata’s dynamic functionality, you can have a ‘dialogue with your data’. You can make changes to the logic of your formulas and see the results immediately without having to run a long query. And with the instant feedback you get, you can quickly respond to what your data is telling you.”

Strata imports and exports data to/from Microsoft Access, FoxPro/xBase and text delimited files as well as ODBC, IBM DB2, Oracle, MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases and provides UNICODE support. With Strata’s drag-and-drop data integration feature, users can open connections to multiple external data sources at one time and import/export data interactively.

Kirix Strata is immediately available at the Kirix online store (http://www.kirix.com/store). Strata costs $125 per year for a subscription license or $425 for a perpetual license, plus a $45 annual maintenance fee for product updates. For more information, please visit http://www.kirix.com.
