(JAS) selected and successfully implemented Navis DC Flow to optimize operations across JAS distribution centers and fabric processing operations throughout the United States. Navis DC Flow uses dynamic optimization to increase DC capacity while lowering operating costs. To support a supply chain that serves over 850 retail stores, DC facilities that process over 50,000 different articles, and 3rd party fabric folding and processing locations, required an intuitive planning and operations system that provided the following benefits:
- Visibility Improvements - Real-time tracking and load visibility will provide JAS and their carriers access to information such as trailer contents, equipment status and loads ready for transit across all yards in the enterprise.
- Increased Service Levels -- Visibility to product that is in the yard but not yet in the DC will enable JAS to improve fill rates. Sequencing and dispatching yard moves based on JAS priority lists while considering real-time trailer status and conditions in the yard allows JAS to expedite unloading of prioritized product.
- Optimized Yard Moves and Switcher Communication - JAS will improve yard efficiency using the advanced Navis DC Flow PrimeRoute algorithm, which minimizes the distance switcher units travel, and optimizes the sequence of all moves in the queue, instead of dispatching on a first-come, first-served basis. The system will also improve switcher communication by sending instructions electronically.
- Streamlined Gate-in/Gate-out Process - By eliminating manual administration and re-keying of data at the gate, JAS will shorten gate queues and turn-times for their carriers.
- Continuous Improvement through Performance Reporting -- JAS will use the systems comprehensive reporting and data storage capability to measure and drive continuous improvement opportunities. JAS will gather information on performance metrics, labor standards and audit trails of all yard activity.
