Denver to Host North American Fencing Cup March 11-14 at the Colorado Convention Center
The Colorado Division of the US Fencing Association invites Front Range residents to come cheer on local fencers and experience the excitement of the sport at the North American Fencing Cup, which is free and open to the public. Over 1200 of the best fencers from North America are expected at the tournament. Over 100 Colorado fencers expected to participate.
Denver, CO (PRWEB) February 18, 2005 -- The Colorado Division of the US Fencing Association announced today that it would be the local host of a North American Cup (NAC) event March 11-14 at the Colorado Convention Center, Hall D. Tournament organizers expect over 1200 fencers from the US, Canada, and Mexico to compete at this event, which is free and open to the public.
According the Colorado Division Chair Mary Wilkerson, Were thrilled to have a North American fencing event in Denver metro area. This will be a terrific opportunity for local fencers to showcase their talents in a high profile setting. We expect over 100 local fencers to compete in this tournament in mens, womens and veterans categories."
It has been several years since local fencers have had an international event in their own backyard. Denver last played host to an international fencing event in 2000, which attracted hundreds of fencers from around the country. The Colorado Division invites Front Range residents to come cheer on local fencers and experience the excitement of the sport. Spectators can expect to see over twenty concurrent bouts during peak hours of the tournament. Fencing moves fast and bouts are scored electronically, so everyone can follow the action," says Wilkerson.
Fencers will compete in three weapons: foil, fencings primary training weapon, epee, the descendant of the dueling sword, and sabre, the modern version of the slashing cavalry sword. There will be mens and womens events open to participants over age 13, and veterans events open to participants over age 40. Fencing events will be going on from 8 am to 6pm daily.
