Author/Pilot/Photographer Gives Free Presentation and Behind-the-Scenes Peek About His Exotic Aerial Adventure
Ron Lowery will give a free presentation with lecture, slides and video at REI Atlanta, 1800 NE Expressway, Atlanta, GA 30329, on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 7 PM. The audiovisual presentation is based on his new book co-authored with writer Mary Walker, Chasing Lewis & Clark Across America: A 21st Century Aviation Adventure.
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 19, 2005 -- Blended with music, Lowery's slideshow will feature aerial and ground photos shot along his three-month journey on the Lewis and Clark trail. A behind-the-scenes video follows that shows the plane under construction, preparation for the trip, creative and logistical challenges, as well as life along the trail. Mr. Lowery will remain to answer photographic, aviation and travel questions about the Lewis and Clark trip and how others can plan their own version of retracing the journey. At this presentation, writer/photographer/pilot Ron Lowery will offer everyone a front seat ride" in the plane he built called Cloud Chaser. Peer through his lens as he explores and photographs America in this plane that resembles a canoe in the sky." Mostly flying at low altitude for 14,000 miles, he uses the rivers as his highway to guide him across the prairie, badlands, mountains to emerge at the Pacific Ocean. During this aerial odyssey you will witness how sipping the beauty of America like a fine wine influenced his creativity and ultimately he produced the book Chasing Lewis and Clark Aross America: A 21st Century Aviation Adventure.
I built this plane for two reasons--first for photography, second for exploring," continues Lowery. For the past three months, I have flown over landscapes that never repeated but evolved like the view through a kaleidoscope. It was like Cloud Chaser was taking us to yet another breathtaking vista to show me what she had found." With ambassador-like status, the plane with its unique appearance and flying characteristics, drew curious crowds.
Chasing Lewis & Clark Across America: A 21st Century Aviation Adventure is Lowery and Walkers aerial salute to the courageous expedition of the Corps of Discovery during the 200th Anniversary of the epic journey. His story of retracing Lewis and Clark has been the subject of several newspaper articles including the Business & Aviation Journals, Bismarck Tribune, Seattle Post Intelligencer, and St. Louis Post Dispatch. He was profiled in the book Right Brain, Left Brain Photography: The Art and Technique of 70 Modern Masters. For the past 14 years he has explored and photographed the United States from his home-built airplanes.
