Get Ready for a Gold Rush" at Good Samaritan Hospital Foundations 20th Annual Spring Ball

This years theme is Gold Rush," and will honor Mr. Alan Elkin, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of Active International and Lawrence Katz, M.D.

(PRWEB) February 19, 2005 -- Grab your prospecting pan and get ready to stake a claim for your table at the 20th Annual Good Samaritan Hospital Spring Ball, which will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2005 at the Hilton Woodcliff Lake, in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. Long known as the communitys premier black tie event, this years ball will feature a Gold Rush" theme, and will honor Mr. Alan Elkin, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of Active International with the Good Samaritan Hospital Medal of Honor, as well as Lawrence Katz, M.D., with the Sister Joseph Rita Award for Medical Excellence. Tickets to this annual premier event are currently being sold through the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation.

As always the Gold Rush" theme will be carried through to virtually every aspect of the evening, from decorations and cuisine, to the always popular raffle prizes.

"As people walk into the hotel that evening, they will immediately begin to experience the ambiance and the excitement that the original '49ers felt as gold fever spread throughout northern California," said Janetlee Pillitteri, Event Chair. Our committee has planned an elaborate evening that will appeal to the inner prospector that lives in us all!"

Although the event has become a must attend" on the social calendar for residents of Rockland and Northern Bergen counties, and is talked about for weeks in advance and after, the highlight of the Spring Ball is the presentation of awards honoring community leaders.

Alan Elkin, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of Active International has long been one of the mainstays and pillars of our community. Active Cares, a charitable foundation created by Mr. Elkin, provides the means for funding to over 500 individual charitable causes that are proposed by Active International employees. Mr. Elkin served as President of the Corporate Barter Council for the International Reciprocal Trade Association, and has been on their board of directors for the past 10 years. In 1999, he was inducted into the Barter Hall of Fame and was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year award by Ernst & Young. For his service and dedication to the community, Mr. Elkin will receive this years Good Samaritan Hospital Medal of Honor.

Dr. Lawrence Katz is this years recipient of the Sister Joseph Rita Award for Medical Excellence. Dr. Katz, a renowned orthopedist, has been practicing in this community for over 30 years, during which time he has made significant contributions not only to the lives of his patients, but to the greater Rockland County healthcare community in general. Dr. Katz has also been a consulting orthopedist for the NBA, where he is often called upon to evaluate player injuries to determine whether salary cap relief, or playoff roster replacement, is justified. The award is named after Sister Joseph Rita, a nurse and administrator at Good Samaritan Hospital, who was known as an "angel of mercy" for ministering to those in crisis.

This years honorees have demonstrated exceptional commitment and service to the community. It is our distinct honor to pay tribute to them at the Spring Ball," said Christine Maraia, Executive Vice President, Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation. We encourage all friends of Good Samaritan to come out for what promises to be a truly special evening."

Maraia notes that the committee will also be publishing a commemorative journal, in which those whose lives have been touched by Alan Elkin or Dr. Katz, as well as the public, can share their congratulations to the honorees.

Proceeds from this years event will help to fund improvements and equipment at Good Samaritan Hospitals Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which provides high tech - high touch" care for ill and premature babies.

Individual tickets are $375 per person, and tables of ten are now available. Raffle tickets are priced at 1 ticket for $5.00; 5 tickets for $20.00; or 15 tickets for $50.00.

Good Samaritan Hospital is part of the Bon Secours Charity Health System, which also includes St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, NY and Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY.
