Last year has been a very interesting year for the search engine industry, especially for the major players. Internet Search, the 21st Century's major information revolution, has extended to all reaches of the world and to Israel as well.

The year 2004 will be remembered as the year in which search engines established their status as the main source of global and local search. In the past, local companies dominated the Israeli Internet Search market, yet 2004 was the year in which Google became the most widely used search engine in Israel.

In direct response to this revolutionary rise in Google-search power, a Google placement promotion contest has been declared by one of Israel's major daily online newspapers. The phrase chosen for the contest is “latur motor” which is a humorous paraphrase of “search engine” (in Hebrew – לתור מוטור).

The contest, declared on Dec. 28th 2004, has been receiving much attention from SEO agencies, commercial websites, private websites and computer programmers. At the start off of the contest, the phrase “latur motor” in Hebrew had absolutely no Google search results, yet at present already has over 200,000 results.

The contest ends on February 28th, 2005 at noon. At that time the three first winners will be announced and awarded prizes. Many Israeli blogs are devoted to the contest. One of the noticeable websites dedicated to the banquet is, a graphical report of the changes in participants' rankings and other development. This page provides rankings review of the participants –

The participants need to find original ways to promote their web page. At this time, the Israel yellowpages website, in its latur-motor page לתור מוטור leads the competition. They have, granted they win, committed to donate the prize, to children’s refuge homes that are permanently supported by the organization.
