Auxiliarist Recieves Prestigious Award from State Governments' Boating Association

A national officer of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary has been presented with the prestigious "Public Service Award" by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). "The Public Service Award is set up as a way of positively reinforcing safe boating practices, especially in advertising and the media" according to the NASBLA website (www.nasbla.org).

Massapequa, NY (PRWEB) February 21, 2005 -- CDR John Felker, USCG, the Director of Auxiliary for the First Coast Guard District, southern region presented the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators' (NASBLA) "Public Service Award" to Wayne Spivak, in recognition of the work done on behalf of the recreational boating public by Mr. Spivak in his role as a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary on Sunday, February 13th. The presentation was made on behalf of Brian Kempf, New York State Boating Law Administrator for NASBLA.

Mr. Spivak, a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary National Press Corps was given this prestigious award by NASBLA for writing and distributing more than 80 articles on recreational boating safety, which in turn were placed in more than 200 media outlets. At the time of the award (May 2004), over 80,000 people read the articles on web site maintained by Spivak for the Coast Guard Auxiliary (www.auxguidanceskills.info).

Since the Award date, Mr. Spivak has written a total of over 130 articles, reaching over 120,000 people on the Coast Guard Auxiliary web site, as well as hundreds of media outlets and untold thousands of boaters worldwide.

Mr. Spivak, is also the Division Chief for External Communications for the Auxiliary, as well as a member of the staff of the Chief Director of the Auxiliary at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington DC, as well as the Director of Auxiliary for the First Coast Guard District, southern region and Seventh Coast Guard District, located in Miami, FL.

In his private life, Mr. Spivak is the Chief Financial Officer for dna Model Management, a top-rated high-fashion modeling agency in New York City, as well as an Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Lehman College, City University of New York. Mr. Spivak is also a freelance writer, with hundreds of non-boating and Coast Guard related articles to his credit.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is composed of uniformed, non-military volunteer civilians who assist the Coast Guard in all of its varied missions, except for military and direct law enforcement. These men and women can be found on the nation's waterways, in the air, in classrooms and on the dock, performing Maritime Domain Awareness patrols, safety patrols, vessel safety checks and public education.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was founded in 1939 by an Act of Congress as the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and re-designated as the Auxiliary in 1941. Its 35,000 members donate millions of hours annually in support of Coast Guard missions.
