Mekhi Phifer Wins Poker's Grand Prize To Benefit Child Abuse Prevention

Love Our Children USA announced today that actor Mekhi Phifer, who portrays Dr. Gregory Pratt on the hit NBC television show E.R., won the $10,000 grand prize on its behalf on the most recent episode of the Travel Channel's World Poker Tour's Hollywood Home Game.

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 22, 2005 -- Mekhi was one of six celebrities who played No Limit Texas Hold 'Em on game six of the shows third season, which aired last night, February 20th. The show brought together celebrities Levar Burton, Andrea Parker, Jon Hensley, Adrian Young and Wil Wheaton to play poker for their favorite charities.

While celebrity poker tournaments are the biggest rage and the stars love playing for charity, they bring charities additional exposure and the money from the winnings is put to good use," said Ross Ellis, Chief Executive Officer of Love Our Children USA. We are thrilled and deeply grateful to Mekhi Phifer and the World Poker Tour for this donation."

Love Our Children USA works to empower and support children, teens, parents and families through information, resources, advocacy and online youth mentoring.

Love our Children USA is getting to the root of the cause of the victimization of more than 3 million children each year ... of the abductions of almost 1.8 million children reported missing each year ... and of 580,000 children in foster care in our country today. By changing social behaviors and attitudes and by generating positive change, millions of children can be saved, allowing them to grow up healthy, loved, safe and nurtured.
