Venturella Carves Out Artistic Music Niche

Wisconsin musician, Nick Venturella, continues to fuse visual art with his music on his story-telling neo-folk/rock concept albums. Check out Nick Venturella's latest effort "Linear Cycle of the Seasons" (OatMeal Records, 2004) and read further about Venturella's new concept for his next project, "SweetSonic."

(PRWEB) February 23, 2005 -- The saying goes: If you want something done right you have to do it yourself, or in many cases, if you have a unique vision or goal that isnt quite clear to anyone else your best bet of achieving it is to pursue it yourself. Nick Venturella is no exception to this rule. For the last 11 years Venturella has been involved in several aspects of the arts, and like many a creative person he too has gone the 'do it yourself (D.I.Y.) route to pursue and continually evolve his unique vision.

Venturella, 25, has been a Waukesha, WI native for the past 15 years. He now calls Madison, WI home, but gives Waukesha credit for fostering his artistic beginnings. Perhaps most notably Venturella is known as a solo musician toting his acoustic guitar and performing his original neo-folk/rock songs wherever he goes. Perhaps not-so-well-known is the artistic niche that Venturella consistently carves out in combination with each collection of songs he records. Being a well-written individual with a visual art background and a penchant for melody, Venturella finds ways to combine his talents to create entire cohesive stories with each album.

On each of Venturellas three full-length records he has crafted a theme or concept that follows a plot throughout the album much like a short story. Often inspired by the album themes, Venturella, using his artistic talent, illustrates images to convey the content of the record, and on occasion Venturella displays his artwork at some of the cafes he performs in.

Venturellas latest effort, Linear Cycle of the Seasons (OatMeal Records, August 2004), takes the listener through the seasons of the year beginning with fall and proceeding to winter, spring, and summer. The sonic moods and content of the songs reflect the seasons as they parallel the patterns that life and relationships create.

As is Venturellas prolific nature he is already working out the concept for a new project titled, SweetSonic.

The story that SweetSonic will tell and depict will be a bit of a loose social commentary regarding the efforts many of us go through to detach and/or distract ourselves from the chaotic things going on around us. This, is often in an effort to lose ourselves in a glimpse of ignorant bliss, or as a positive connotation, to feel alive with the ever-fleeting observations of the little beauties in life," said Venturella.

To more fully realize the feat of Venturellas work and talent you have to further examine his D.I.Y. ethos. Not only does Venturella write and perform his music and create his artwork, but he also records and produces his own albums, usually performing all the instruments recorded, releases his albums under his own OatMeal Records label, books his own shows, and supports the music community as a Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) member and National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) member.

You can see Venturella along with Catch Penny performing at Rooters Nightclub (901 Northview Rd., ph.262-544-9600) in Waukesha on Friday February 25, 2005. The show begins at 9:00pm.
