Eleven Year Old Receives "Peace Hero Award" and a Standing Ovation for Her Message to Youth

Many people are recognized for their peace efforts, particularly during the 64 days of each year known as "The Season of Non-Violence". But not many award recipients of this kind are eleven years old. Breea Ramskill is no ordinary kid. She is a violent crime survivor, a youth advocate and now added to her resume, Peace Hero.

(PRWEB) February 25, 2005 -- When Breea and her mom, Michelle Renee, Founder of The VOW Foundation, walked onto the stage at a ceremony last Sunday, the audience sat with stunned faces as Michelle described a night of terror that has turned into a passion for change. Michelle speaks nationally on topics such as Beyond Blame: The Possibilities are Endless, and Be Your Kids Hero: Shape Their World with Purpose. But it was what Breea had to say that brought the crowd of more than 200 people to their feet, cheering with tears in their eyes.

I want to tell every kid around the world that just because something sad and scary happened to me doesnt mean the rest of my life has to be sad and scary. I want every kid to know that if they are really brave and never, ever give up, everything will be okay." Breea said with poise and heart.

Breea recently formed Girls Against Crime, an after school club to raise funds and awareness about violent crime issues related to youth, with a few of her friends. They have raised nearly $500.00 in just four short weeks, and raised awareness among hundreds of kids. Their recent Self Defense Class for Kids was a success and allowed youth to learn about how to protect themselves against approaching strangers. The recent kidnapping on video of a young girl being taken and not seeing her use self-defense skills was the catalyst for the event.

Whats next on the agenda for Breea? Pretty Pooches! Kids can bring their dogs in for a doggie makeover for just $10.00. Sponsors are needed for the event that will be held in March (TBA). All funds raised by the GACC go directly into the Breea Scholarship Fund. The Breea Scholarship Fund is distributed annually to selected youth or families whose lives have been greatly altered by violent crime. Funds will be presented at The VOW Foundations Annual Right to Shine Event on April 15, 2005. Sen. Bill Morrow will be the special guest speaker.
