The Society of Recovering Sorority Girls (RSG), through its founders, Kristina ÂMorgan Rose and Deandra ÂBrooksie Brooks, announce the start of ÂProject Cinderella for the 2005 prom season. ÂProject Cinderella is a formal dress donation drive that will provide high school girls in need with a dress to wear to their schools prom.
ÂBrooksie and I strongly believe that formal dresses were meant to be worn, not relegated to closets, said Morgan. ÂSo send your prom dress back to the prom by donating it to RSGÂs formal dress drive.Â
Arlington Public Schools asked the organization to spearhead ÂProject Cinderella this year after Morgan and Brooksie led a successful drive for the 2004 prom season to benefit the Schools ÂFormals for Five Campaign. RSG enthusiastically agreed to make it an annual event  the first major philanthropic endeavor of The Society of Recovering Sorority Girls. During last yearÂs effort, RSGÂs membership network collected 65 formal dresses for ÂFormals for Five. This bulk dress donation raised $170 for the Arlington County Schools In Support of Children Fund and made the dream of a $5 prom dress a reality for many of the young women who attended the event.
ÂI attended the ÂFormals for Five event last year, and itÂs one of my best memories of 2004, recounted Brooksie. ÂWatching the high school students find the perfect dress was a Hallmark moment  their faces just lit up with smiles.Â
Dresses will be collected through mid-May. The organization requests that donated dresses be in good condition and dry-cleaned. Gently used prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses and formal wear are all acceptable donations. All donors will receive income tax receipts from the Arlington County School District. ÂClean out your closet and be a fairy godmother this prom season, urged Morgan. ÂBy donating a dress youÂll make a young girlÂs prom dreams come true and allow yourself to buy a fabulous new replacement dress guilt free, advised Brooksie.
