Isaac Eliaz, M.D. Wins Award for Original Clinical Research at Scripp’s Natural Supplement Conference Study Suggests that Natural Supplement, MCP Reduces Heavy Metal Toxicity. Isaac Eliaz, M.D, M.S.C., L.A.c., founder of Better Health Publishing and medical director of Amitabha Medical Clinic and Healing Center, has won the third place award for Original Clinical Research at the Scripps 2nd Annual Natural Supplements – An Evidenced Based Update Conference held last month in La Jolla, California. Dr. Eliaz’s research demonstrates that a new application for Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) may be emerging, as beneficial results have been found in two pilot human clinical trials for reducing heavy metal toxicity.

MCP was tested in individuals to determine its effect on the total mercury body burden and urinary excretion of toxic elements. Results of the first trial showed significant increases in urinary excretion of arsenic and cadmium. Mercury and lead also demonstrated increased excretion approaching significance. In the second trial, total mercury body burden dropped significantly in an average of four months after oral administration of MCP. These results are very promising for the therapeutic use of MCP in significantly decreasing total mercury body burden and in cases of heavy metal toxicity.

“As mercury has been identified as a potential threat to the health of pregnant women, children and especially babies, MCP may potentially act as a gentle chelator (detoxifier) for those who eat fish regularly" said Dr. Eliaz. “Since heavy metal toxicity may be an aggravating factor for cancer patients, MCP may play a dual role in the treatment of cancer.” Up until this time, MCP has been known for its role in complimentary therapies for cancer patients. MCP is known to inhibit primary tumors and interfere with cell-to-cell interactions preventing adhesion of prostate, human breast and colon cancer cells to endothelial cells, thereby reducing angiogenesis and metastasis potential.

Dr. Eliaz is a pioneer in the field of integrative medicine and founder of Better Health Publishing http://www.dreliaz.com, an education-based company that provides healthcare professionals, consumers and other interested individuals with scientific research on integrative medicine. He is a respected author, clinical practitioner and frequent guest lecturer on integrative medical approaches to health, immune enhancement and cancer prevention and treatment. Since 1991, Dr. Eliaz has maintained a busy private practice in Sebastopol, California, that focuses primarily on integrative and holistic protocols for cancer patients as well as those with chronic health challenges.
