(PRWEB) February 26, 2005 -- More than 300 children from Colorado Springs, Fountain and Pueblo had a lesson they could really sink their teeth into when the Dental Assistant students from Pima Medical Institute, 370 Printers Parkway in Colorado Springs recently gave the children instruction on oral hygiene for National Childrens Dental Health Month.

The message for the children at Goodnight Elementary in Pueblo and schoolchildren from Ridgeview Elementary, Springs Learning Center and the Boys & Girls Club in Colorado Springs, as well as Fountain Mesa Elementary School in Fountain, focused on brushing, flossing and avoiding sugar. The future dental assistants used interactive, hands-on demonstrations to make the lessons useful, as well as fun for the children. Its a good idea to get kids in the habit of flossing daily when they are young, so it becomes a lifelong practice," said Angela McGrady, dental assistant program instructor. A lot of people dont realize that baby teeth are more than just teeth that will fall out. They act as guides for permanent teeth. You really dont want children to loose their teeth too early because they were neglected."

The Dental Assistant program at Pima Medical Institute is 30 weeks for the day program or 33 weeks for the evening program. Anyone interested in the program, or having the Dental Assistant students demonstrate dental hygiene techniques to children should call toll free at 888-442-5998.
