Heritage Galleries Announces March Auction of Vintage Posters

Announcement of major sale of vintage posters, WW I and II posters, ski posters, World's Fair posters, travel posters, circus posters

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) February 26, 2005 -- Heritage Celebrates the Art of the Vintage Poster in March! Heritage Vintage Movie Posters (HVMP) will present an exceptional selection of vintage war, travel, exposition circus and other posters in their upcoming auction, to be held March 17 &18 in Dallas, Texas.

"This is our first foray into this exciting field of poster collecting," said Grey Smith, Director of HVMP. "With the invaluable assistance of Rudy and Barbara Franchi, longtime dealers in collectible ephemera and well-known for their appearances on PBS' Antiques Roadshow, we've managed to put together a stunning assortment of vintage material that is sure to cause a great deal of excitement in the collecting community."

"There are a number of images in this sale that will be instantly recognizable to almost anyone," continued Smith. "James Montgomery Flagg's classic "I Want You" recruitment poster (http://www.heritagemovieposters.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=613&Lot_No=28134), is probably the most famous, with Joseph Binder's famed poster for the 1939 New York World's Fair featuring the Trylon and the Perisphere (http://www.heritagemovieposters.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=613&Lot_No=28066) being a close second."

"Less well known, but no less beautiful," said Smith, "are a selection of ski posters from the 1920s and 30s, a selection of 20 Italian travel posters issued by the Italian Railroad system during the Fascist regime, a group of large 1930s circus posters (http://www.heritagemovieposters.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=613&Lot_No=28196), and a recently discovered trove of unique late 19th century vaudeville and sideshow one sheets and three sheets (http://www.heritagemovieposters.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=613&Lot_No=28113)."

Also included in the auction are a large number of posters with art by such noted designers as Milton Glaser, Paul Davis, Al Hirschfeld and Seymour Chwast, which were commissioned by Mobil Oil to promote the PBS series, Masterpiece Theater and Mystery.
