Delphian School Students Give Tutoring Help
Students from The Delphian School have success tutoring students enrolled in an after-school program at Chapman School in Sheridan, Oregon.
(PRWEB) February 26, 2005 -- Two sophomores from the Delphian School have been tutoring students at an after-school program at Chapman School in Sheridan. Delphian School student, Colleen Culpepper, has been working with a Chapman third grader who was having difficulty understanding decimals as part of his math homework. In her tutoring, Colleen applies Study Technology, which she uses every day in her own studies. These are basic learning tools that were developed by educator, L. Ron Hubbard, and are taught in the Delphian School program. She started her first lesson by using a simple dictionary to clear up such terms as "decimal," and the -th" of tenth." She also incorporated some real-life experience by using play money and helping him to understand the ideas he was working with more clearly. Colleen said, By the end of the hour, he could quickly and easily do his homework. I was really happy that I could help him, and he was thrilled that he understood it."
Commenting on the success of the student tutoring, program director, Marguerite Alexander, said: "This week I found one of the students that Delphian School student Colleen has been tutoring, has encouraged another student to get his math done. It is fascinating and heartwarming to see the change in attitude in these boys who have been struggling in school."
The Delphian School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school offering college preparatory, English-as-a-Second-Language and summer programs for elementary through high school students. The Delphian School is licensed to use Applied Scholastics educational services.
