Relationships Arent What They Used to Be

Leading online dating provider Match.com (au.match.com)says control in our own hands

(PRWEB) February 26, 2005 -- Relationships evolve over time and the way we look at ourselves as part of a relationship has evolved even within the past decade. Until the 1970s, it was inconceivable that a woman would have a baby without being married, unheard of that she would have one without a partner. Yet in 2003, 43% of single women polled in a Match.com survey say they would consider having a child without a husband or romantic partner.

Relationships are changing and women are increasingly more independent and more confidently ignoring long-held stereotypes, taking a more proactive approach about making personal choices.

Jane Thompson, newly appointed Managing Director of Match.com Australia, says so much has changed in relationships over the years -- and they still arent static.

The concept of waiting for Mr Right is redundant, as we battle long hours and increasingly find ourselves socialising with people who are already married or in long term relationships. Today things are so different. Relationships are different. And women are choosing to be in control of their destinies," said Ms Thompson. Its really hard meeting a partner if youre not exposed to new people.

Thats the reason were seeing people, women and men, taking more a more pro-active approach to meeting potential partners. Things like taking up hobbies, asking friends to introduce them to people in their social circle, along with the success of online dating, has opened up the social horizon of many people" added Ms Thompson.

But realistically," Ms Thompson continues, Match.com works so well around the world because it does give people control over the when and the how of starting a relationship. A woman, or a man, can get an overview of a person through their profile, which usually includes a photo, and can get to know them better via email before she takes the plunge and decides to meet up with that person. By the time they have their first coffee together, they know a whole lot about each other. That gives people a powerful feeling of confidence that they have a sense of who the person theyre meeting is before they ever meet them face-to-face. At the end of the day, they control their own destiny."

Match.com, a leading global provider of online dating content, is the authority on dating. With 20 million members worldwide, Match.com claims credit to 89,000 people reported they found the person they were seeking.
