Tired of Yoga? Bored With Pilates? - Try Bellydance Floorwork - a Hot New Workout DVD

Floorwork or mat exercises are a vital part of many fitness systems including yoga and Pilates. Bellydance Floorwork offers all the benefits of these systems - stretching, toning and strength training - plus the added motivation of learning the artistry of dance arising from ancient traditions, the ultimate path toward fluidity and sensual grace.

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 28, 2005 - now available on DVD (WorldDance New York) - takes the familiar genre of the mat workout to a new level.

It's challenging. Sequences of backbends flow into body waves, intricate undulations and serpentine patterns of hipwork demand control, isolation and core strength.

It's sexy. Except that the word sexy" fails to describe the sophisticated and self-assured flair of this attractive dance technique whose history cuts through millennia.

It's all about feeling beautiful. Similar to the meditative aspects of yoga, belly dance floorwork offers real emotional benefits - fearless affirmation of femininity and celebration of all body types.

As a dance term, floorwork" refers to the section of a bellydance show where the dancer descends, either gracefully or dramatically, to the floor, and performs a variety of movements there. These movements are intended to be artistically satisfying, but they also serve as an excellent showcase for the dancer's flexibility, strength and muscle control.

Both earthy and spiritual, bellydance floorwork can add a unique creative experience to ones individual fitness program.

The Bellydance for Body Shaping: Floorwork" DVD contains an innovative program translating the aesthetics and techniques of bellydance floorwork into 3 dynamic 15-minute fitness routines that can be combined for a longer workout. Pictorial cues and onscreen titles show the name of each bellydance movement. A progress bar indicates the number of reps for each move, and marks the rep the exerciser is currently performing.

Along with a short warmup and cooldown, each routine offers a real 2-minute choreographed dance built from 2-3 reps of each move taught in the preceeding exercise session.

Designed by TANNA, a popular New York dance instructor, the Bellydance for Body Shaping: Floorwork" program also features a belly dance technique tutorial, Introduction to the anatomy of movement involved in floorwork" by fitness consultant and NYC personal trainer Andy Troy, CSCS, and a belly dance performance by Tanna.

Down-to-earth, warm and supportive, Tanna leads the viewer through her program with a cheerful smile and deceptive ease. "I started learning bellydance as a teenager" she says. "I enjoyed its exotic glamor, and it motivated me to stay in shape. After years of studying this ancient art, and then teaching it to women of all ages and fitness levels, I am a firm believer in the strong mind-body link of bellydance, which comes from its traditional roots. The feeling of feminine empowerment it creates can help you cope with difficult physical and emotional experiences. Plus, you never get tired of feeling beautiful!"
