All About John Deere for Kids, Part 1 presents an informative mix of new and vintage equipment from the company that has become as American as apple pie. Each fact-filled segment, backed by lively original music by composer and songwriter James Coffey, introduces the John Deere fleet of farming and industrial vehicles and shows them in action in a delightful, entertaining, and educational fashion.

Become acquainted with the many types of John Deere tractors considered the backbone and most important machinery on any farm. Children will learn how tractors range in size, are categorized, and how they plant, cultivate, and harvest. See John Deere’s first tractor, the 1918 Waterloo Boy. This two-cylinder landmark model put the company on the map with its trademark popping sounds and workhorse reliability. John Deere two-cylinder tractors are known as “Johnny Poppers.”

Visit with several collectors, including Bill Kettlehut, who owns a fully restored 1925 Spoker D; pumpkin farmer Bob DeVries, who still uses his vintage 1958 730 diesel to cultivate his pumpkin patch; and Bill Donner, who recently acquired a rare 1960 John Deere 8020, the 6th of only 100 built.

John Deere’s industrial equipment includes wheel loaders, dump trucks, dozers, and skidders. The program focuses oh the excavator and walks young hardhats through the process of digging holes and loading giant trucks. There’s even a fun segment on John Deere toys, and you’ll meet Otto, the befuddled farmer, who keeps working the wrong field!
