Multiple Full Sail Grads Work on Oscar-Winning Films

Full Sail graduates continue to garner success at the entertainment industry's most prestigious awards show.

(PRWEB) March 8, 2005 -- At the 77th Annual Academy Awards, multiple Full Sail graduates enjoyed the distinction of seeing their work on Oscar-winning films recognized on the Academy Awards telecast on Sunday, February 27th. This caps a productive decade for Full Sails graduates, as five of the past ten Best Picture honorees have featured the talents of Full Sail grads in production, including this years winner, Clint Eastwoods Million Dollar Baby.

This year featured nine graduates on projects receiving Oscar accolades, while Recording Arts grad Gary Rizzo was personally nominated for his work as a sound re-recording mixer on this years Oscar-winning Animated Feature Film, The Incredibles. Other Full Sail grads that were a part of The Incredibles team -- which also won in the Sound Editing slot -- include digital artist Jeremy Vickery, sequence modeling lead Kristifir Klein, assistant sound editor Dee Selby, and sound mix technicians Juan Peralta and Jurgen Scharpf.

Scharpfs work as a sound mix technician is also featured on Million Dollar Baby, which, in addition to its Best Picture win, took home wins for two of its stars -- Hillary Swank for Actress in a Leading Role and Morgan Freeman for Actor in a Supporting Role. Clint Eastwood, the director and one of the producers of the film, was also recognized with his second Oscar in the Directing category.

Spider-Man 2s outstanding effects brought the summer blockbuster an Oscar win in the Visual Effects category; Full Sail Digital Media grads Culley Bunker (compositor) and Michael Comly (lighting technical director both worked on the film. Bill Galbreath, Full Sails Program Manager for the Digital Media program, says that watching the success of these talented grads is part of the joy of working at Full Sail. The fact that our grads are involved with successful commercial projects and that those projects have been recognized by the industry as being of the highest quality makes us proud to be associated with them."
