Popular Browser Companion "Search Panel" Now Supports Yahoo! Search; Underlying Technology Available as SDK

Search Panel, the popular browser companion which lets users search as they surf, now supports Yahoo! search. Thanks to Search Panel's flexible architecture, the Yahoo! feed was fully integrated just one week after Yahoo! announced its API. The technology underlying Search Panel is also now available as a licensable SDK for building of custom search interfaces.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 8, 2005 -- Naturally Open announced today the availability of Yahoo! search results through its popular browser companion "Search Panel", allowing users to access Yahoo! web, image, local, video, and news search through Search Panel's convenient sidebar.

Sakiko Kimura, Naturally Open's VP of Product Management, stated, "When Yahoo! announced its new Search API last week, we knew we wanted to add those feeds to Search Panel. Luckily, Search Panel's innovative architecture makes it a snap to integrate new data sources. For instance, we also recently added an Amazon.com feed to let users browse the Amazon catalog while surfing."

All of Search Panel's unique features can now be used to perform Yahoo! searches. For instance, to initiate a search, the user need only select any text on the page. The results are immediately displayed in a compact, attractive sidebar at the left of the browser window.

Search Panel is Naturally Open's public concept demo of its technology. In a companion announcement, the company announced the immediate availability of that technology in the form of a licensable "Search Panel SDK", allowing providers of search, e-commerce, and content to quickly build next-generation interfaces to their offerings, to better engage the customer and create new monetization opportunities.

Bob Myers, CEO of Naturally Open, noted, "Enhanced interfaces is one of the key future directions for search. People are tired of looking at the Google-like pages of blue links. We built our technology from the ground up as a robust, extensible platform for superior search interfaces. Our Search Panel application shows how solid the technology is. We're pleased we can now make this technology available to the industry to serve as the basis for a new wave of improved interfaces."

Search Panel is based on an innovative new architecture for building search interfaces right into the browsing process. In addition to making it easy to integrate new feeds, Search Panel's unique server-side configurability allows it to be extended and enhanced "on-the-fly", without users needing to download any additional components. For instance, the Yahoo! announcements announced today are immediately available to all existing Search Panel users the next time they open a browser. Search Panel's advanced design makes use of asynchronous client-side processing, such as that used in Google's well-regarded map offering, to seamlessly retrieve, transform, and display search results.
