The Jumpstart Foundation Does It Again For Mercy Medical Center This Time Using A Cruise As A Fund Raiser

Long Island Students Raise Funds By Organizing Caribbean Family Cruise Event. Families and friends of a charitable organization joined together on their first fund raiser cruise, return home with unforgettable memories and a lot of cash for their charity.

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 9, 2005 -- Almost two years ago, in June 2003 when seven students here on Long Island took the initiative to help others in their community, they never thought their fund raising events would include a cruise to the Caribbean. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we had a lot of laughs. Both kids and adults" said Liz Colantonio who is one of the students mother. They all want to do it again next year".

The foundation first began with the efforts of Matthew Colantonio (Freshman Chaminade H.S.) and the help of his father Dr. Anthony Colantonio, a General and Vascular surgeon at Mercy Hospital. Jump Starts fund raisers include various sporting events and an annual Family & Friends" vacation fund raiser that may be held on a popular cruise or in an all-inclusive resort. All proceeds go to Mercy Hospitals Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Rockville Centre.

A neonate is a newborn child that has been born prematurely, weighs less than 5 pounds at birth and may possess some birth defects. Since the newborns need a Jump Start on life" the students decided to name their charity The Jump Start Foundation" and their motto is Helping those who cant help themselves. The foundation uses the profits to buy incubators and other important equipment for the NICU allowing the doctors to take care of more newborns at a time.

Jump Start is rapidly growing in high schools throughout Long Island. The organization has been featured in Newsday, Long Island Catholic News, Garden City News, Rockville Centre Herald, and News 12. I think that we will have a lot more people joining us next year in the Jumpstarts all-inclusive vacation fund raiser" said Liz Colantonio.

The students decided to use a cruise as a fund raiser after Sharon R. Viotto owner/operator of Cruise Planners, a travel agency in Rockville Centre, explained the benefits of Carnivals Cruising for Charity" program. In todays times it has become increasingly difficult for non-profit and charitable organizations to raise meaningful funds" said Sharon. With so many special interest groups and projects that need funding, it is difficult for people to choose a favorite charity" she added. With this program any organization can raise substantial funds while everyone is having fun".

You can support the kids of the Jump Start Foundation to help the children of the NICU by joining them and their families & friends in their upcoming 2006 fund raising vacation! This time in an all-inclusive Caribbean resort! If you like more information on next years event and on Carnivals Cruising for Charity" program, please call Sharon R. Viotto at 516-867-7215 toll free 1-888-799-7447 or email Sharon at sharon@designacruise.com and visit Cruise Planners at www.DesignACruise.com.
