GetEducated.com, LLC, AmericaÂs only consumer-oriented, online degree clearinghouse, has released the results of their biennial survey of tuition costs at accredited, distance-learning computer science and information systems graduate degree programs nationwide.
The results include a list of the Top 20 Ranked Best Buys in Online Computer Science Degrees, archived at http://www.geteducated.com/articles/top20bestbuycsdegreeonline.htm
Premiering at the number one spot this year is East Carolina State University (North Carolina) with a modest cost of $3,270 for an online MasterÂs in Industrial Technology with majors in high-demand career areas, notably Information Security and Computer Networking Management.
The nationwide survey, the only of its kind, identified several trends in online degree pricing that directly impact consumers as they go online to earn masterÂs or doctorate degrees.
ÂNot surprisingly, comments GetEducated CEO and chief analyst, Vicky Phillips, Âeight of the top ten Best Buys came from publicly funded universities. The survey highlights that online degrees can mean big savings in college costs for working adults. ÂMany publicly funded universities in low cost education states in the South and Midwest are beginning to offer their degree programs online for one flat fee, reveals Phillips. ÂThis means prospective students nationwide can begin enjoying low public college tuition rates that were once available only to the residents of selected states.Â
ÂColumbus State University in Georgia is a remarkable buy for learners nationwide, comments the analyst. Their Master of Science in Applied Computer Science can be earned online for under $5,000.
The GetEducated survey revealed the average cost of an online masterÂs degree in computers from a regionally accredited university to be $18,395. The most expensive online computer science degree was offered at just over $47,000 by New York University, a private college.
Phillips points to online degrees offered by the University of Illinois Springfield (ranked 4th) at under $6,000, and Dakota State University (ranked 5th) at under $7,000, as bargain buys for adult learners. A surprising number of name-brand public colleges made the Top 20 Best Buy list, including The University of Maryland, University of California Chico, and Colorado State University.
ÂCollege costs at residential programs have skyrocketed out of control the last decade. The same is not true for online degree programs, reveals Phillips. ÂInstead, what we are seeing are amazing tuition bargains for those who take the time to ferret out their best buy.Â
