Latest Rokland Office Distribution Helps Spread of Open Source

As buzz continues to grow about the rise of open source software, one giant question remains. How will people without broadband be able to obtain open source programs? With the exception of Mozilla, few open source developers release CD-ROM distributions of their programs.

"What we have done," continued Opdyke, "is gathered some of the rising open source programs like OpenOffice.org, Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox, and some other programs, and we have put them onto a CD-ROM so that people with computers who do not have a cable or DSL connection can still get access to this software. Open source is not going to really take off until the playing field is leveled and everyone with a computer can get these great programs."

Rokland's latest distribution contains OpenOffice.org 1.1.4, a full-featured office software suite with a word processor and spreadsheet program (among others) that are both dually compatible with their Microsoft Office counterparts. It also comes with Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird, an alternative web browser and email client respectively, and antivirus and antispyware programs as well.
