Weight Loss Key To Preventing Kidney Stones
Overweight is associated with kidney stone formation but weight loss may reverse the risk.
(PRWEB) March 13, 2005 -- A recent study published in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association concludes that "Obesity and weight gain increase the risk of kidney stone formation." The authors of this study report that risks appear to be greater in women than in men. Researchers further note that "Larger body size may result in increased urinary excretion of calcium, oxalate, and uric acid, thereby increasing the risk for calcium-containing kidney stones." In plain terms, add kidney stones to the long list of health problems caused by overweight, especially if you're female.
Dr. Dana Myatt, noted bariatric family practice physician and author of The Super Fast Diet (www.super-fast-diet.com) finds these results no surprise. "The malnutrition associated with obesity, which in turn causes hormone changes, often results in shifts in mineral balance, producing gallbladder and kidney stone among other problems. The hormonal changes that accompany overweight and obesity are complex and disruptive."
"These weight-related problems are reversible," notes Myatt, who says that this can be accomplished quickly by simple dietary changes. Complete and adequate nutrition, usually lacking in a Standard American Diet (SAD) and almost always in overweight, often spontaneously corrects kidney stones, gallstones, diabetes, GERD (heartburn), hormone imbalances and many cases of cardiovascular disease. "Many people get better without even fully knowing the nature of their imbalances, just by a corrective diet that results in healthful weight loss."
"Improvement of nutritional status - that is, restoration of deep nutrition - is something that has been working well for my patients, but it has been one patient at a time. By putting these techniques into book form I can reach out and help thousands" says Dr. Myatt. "Restoring nutrition, normalizing hormones, and providing some simple, easy, metabolism-boosting exercise almost universally results in gratifyingly rapid weight loss, a loss of weight that will be easy to maintain over the long haul. People look better, feel better, and live better."
Dr. Myatt, with the help of her husband Nurse Mark, has a nationwide and international practice, and operates Dr. Myatt's Wellness Club (www.DrMyattsWellnessClub.com ), a website devoted to providing free health and wellness information from a scientific, holistic viewpoint.
