The authors believe that few small and medium sized business owners and managers use branding as a business strategy on a daily basis. “Although large companies have capitalized on branding for decades, only recently smaller businesses have become aware of branding as a business tool, and very few are taking advantage of it", says Ms. Farrell. "Branding can be effectively used by any small business as it is one of the best ways to stretch a limited marketing budget," she says.

Due to the complexity of the individual assessment and to the nature of the project, participation is limited to 12 companies. Participating companies must be US business, have between 5-99 employees, annual revenue of $250k or more, and an annual marketing budget of at least $18K.
