Network Security Solutions Launches XMS - Xecure (Secure)Message Service Worldwide
Network Security Solutions (NSS) today announced the launch of its new breakthrough technology Xecure Message Service (XMS). This is a service provider independent mobile software that enables end-to-end security and trust in mobile messaging. It runs as an application on the mobile handset and works in the background to encrypt and decrypt messages.
(PRWEB) March 18, 2005 -- At the worldwide launch, Jagdeep Kairon, Chief Executive Officer of Network Security Solutions said, XMS is a unique product that will change the way we communicate and do business. With assurance of data confidentiality via message access controls, sms integrity, non repudiation and authentication, XMS is capable of creating new workflows and turning the handset into a business productivity tool."
Billions of mobile messages are exchanged daily between individuals, businesses, agencies and governments across the world. These messages can easily be intercepted and read by hackers and business competitors.
Often, contents of SMS messages are sensitive in nature and could include private data such as passwords, sales quotes, meeting schedules, stock exchange quotes, bank PIN numbers or account numbers, and product pricing. State or industrial secrets can even be passed via SMS notifications and field reports. Sometimes, the information may not have commercial value but could result in loss of individual privacy if intercepted.
Security requirements in mobile messages could be driven by numerous factors. There may be regulatory requirements for workflows which require the integrity of messages is maintained. For example, a message can not be intercepted and tampered with for bank applications or stock purchases.
While there is certain level of encryption provided by mobile operators, the messages are not secure beyond the base station.
Communication between mobile providers in different zones is facilitated via IP based wired or satellite networks. Due to heterogeneous networks situated across the world, it is almost impossible to secure every message communication in IP based networks using traditional security methods", Kairon added.
Rajendra Dave, Chief Operating Officer & Country Manager, India NSS said that XMS is a boon to enterprises as they can use the messaging medium to reach subscribers, employees or other stakeholders in a secure manner. This brings possibilities of new, innovative business streams and workflows including m-commerce, m-payments etc. For any m-Commerce transaction, the end user as well as bank gateway can digitally sign the order, so that both the parties can validate the non-repudiation of transaction.
Additionally, it is also possible for XMS enabled mobile handset to send and receive secure messages to and from any other host (Gateway) that is also running the XMS Enterprise Server Application.
Dave pointed out that smart phones can accommodate considerable business information. Resident data such as contact information and confidential messages on the mobile needs to be protected to ensure user privacy and data security. The XMS suite of products has additional security features like data encryption on the handset and data wipe in case of loss or theft of mobiles.
