Lawrence P. Adams, former foster child, activist, advocate, public speaker and author of, "Lost Son? A Bastard Child's Journey of Hope, Search, Discovery and Healing," and "A Voice from the Voiceless and Forgotten, An Anthology of a Foster Care System Child Survivor" has become a desperately needed and strong "voice for the voiceless."
It is Mr. Adams' primary goal, being a strong advocate for reform within our child welfare system, to share his story through books, articles and public speaking to bring about that reform.
He also hopes, through sharing his life story, that others, especially children, will come to realize that no matter the obstacles placed in their paths, these can be overcome with faith, hope and hard work. Nothing is impossible!
He attribute being able to overcome a childhood filled with numerous moves within the foster care system to two teachers and a priest. One of the dedications in his first book reads: "Ms. Genevieve Condon, Mr. Clarence Weinerth and Msgr. Nicholas H. Wegner: Boys Town teachers and the late former Executive Director of Boys Town who took it upon themselves to take a young man under siege in his life and teach him to reach for
his fullest potential."
His speeches are truly heart wrenching, inspirational and motivational to any audience. His story directly speaks about the need for child welfare system reform.
One listener says: "As an adoption professional who heard him speak at the International Advocates for Children's International Conference in Atlanta this past fall, I witnessed a presentation that moves mountains. Mr. Doek, from the Netherlands who is Chairman of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, was profoundly moved by his words, and I believe that it will have an enormous impact on UN policy and UNICEF over the coming years. My colleagues and myself all viewed his wonderful story of success and inspiration. I refer to their impact time and again when reflecting on life-changing moments in my recent history and career. His real world perspective is invaluable to policy change. His contributions are enormously valuable in changing the world for the better. He is the very right messenger with the very right message. His story is very important and worthwhile to share with policy makers and potential adoptive families everywhere.
