Vircom Joins the London Action Plan on Anti-Spam Enforcement

Software developer works with international organization to spearhead global anti-spam efforts

Montreal, (PRWEB) March 20, 2005 -- Vircom Inc., developer of Modus secure email management solutions, announced today it has recently joined the London Action Plan (LAP), an international network dedicated to combating spam.

The LAP was created during a workshop on International Spam Enforcement Cooperation, co-hosted in London on October 11, 2004, by the UK Office of Fair Trading and the US Federal Trade Commission. It allows its members to work on concrete projects aimed at improving international spam enforcement cooperation. Participants include private-sector representatives -- including Vircom -- and relevant government spam enforcement agencies.

Created by the UK Office of Fair Trading (OFT) and the US Federal Trade Commission in October 2004, the London Action Plan is mandated to respond to foreign enquiries about spam enforcement. Other participants include private-sector representatives -- including Vircom -- and relevant government agencies acting as advisors to LAP.

To date, the London Action Plan has been endorsed by 26 agencies from 19 countries, plus eleven private-sector representatives. In addition, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the European Commission participate in LAP activities.

Commitments in the action plan made by participating private-sector representatives include:
- establishing a designated contact within an organization to facilitate responses and requests for enforcement related assistance from spam enforcement agencies
- work with other private sector representatives to establish a resource list of individuals within particular sectors working on spam enforcement
- participation in conference calls to assist law enforcement agencies in bringing spam cases and provide information on cases, new technology, trends in internet and spam and general data on spam as an early warning mechanism for government agencies
- assisting in training for government agencies to help their investigations and to bring spam cases

The London Action Plan is an international network for spam enforcers and industry representatives. The LAP builds relationships between these entities based on a short document that sets forth a basic work plan for improving international enforcement and education cooperation against illegal spam.
