Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) March 19, 2005 -- In 1934 a man by the name of Irving Lundy went from selling clams from a pushcart in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn to building one of Brooklyns most famous landmarks. The landmark is the world famous Lundy Brothers Restaurant" and it sits right in the heart of Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn.

In its prime Lundys was a big attraction in Brooklyn, they were right up there with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Attracting people from all over New York, the lines were so long that customers were hanging over diners as they had their meal. They were famous for their delectable seafood dishes and for the celebrities that dined there. Brooklyn families made going to Lundys a tradition, where they would frequent the restaurant on holidays such as Mothers day, Valentines day, Fathers day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.

In 1977 Brooklyn was served a blow with the passing of the founder Irving Lundy and the subsequent closing of Lundys. In the 1990s it reopened but was now run by the public company Tam Restaurants that traded on the OTC market under the symbol TAMR. The restaurant was starting to regain some of its luster until Tam Restaurants expanded too rapidly and caused the company to collapse, with several legal issues following. The doors of Lundys were about to be padlocked by authorities until November of 2004.

It was then that a group by the name of the Players Club, a family owned Brooklyn based corporation, got wind of the situation and refused to have the great restaurant close its doors.

Being a Brooklyn native, I grew up with Lundys in our lives and we just couldnt sit by and watch this happen" said Anthony Dimitroulakos of the Players Club.

We did this so quickly that the customers, the general public and the media had no idea that the ownership of Lundys changed hands. We are still getting calls from people that are owed money by Tam Restaurants, they just don't understand that we are the new owners and not Tam Restaurants.. Its amazing, but if we didnt act quickly then the doors wouldve been shut and probably not reopened, so we took a gamble" added Dimitroulakos.

A gamble that could pay off for the Brooklyn community, keeping its rich history alive for future generations.

The changing of the guard at Lundys received little or no publicity from the local Brooklyn Papers, television or news stations. The stigma that it faced had to do with the era of Tam Restaurants and that stigma is what the current owners are trying to erase.

They have put together a talented staff of professionals that have made a commitment of excellence to the establishment. One waiter had this to say I have been working here for over 8 years and Ive seen the bad times with this place and honestly I woke up every morning wondering if the place was going to be open, that is a sickening feeling, I do not have that feeling anymore."

Lundys has seating for over 700 people and all baking is done on the premises, their specialty pastries have gained recognition in the Brooklyn community for being mouth watering. They offer catering services for weddings, parties, communions and corporate events.

Lundy Brothers Restaurant is located at 1901 Emmons Avenue in Brooklyn New York, their number for catering information or reservations is 718-743-0022. Their website is www.lundysrestaurant.com .
