Orange, CA (PRWEB) March 21, 2005 -- The 2005 Leadership in Innovation" Award will be presented to Kent Thiry, Chairman and CEO of DaVita Inc., by the Adaptive Business Leaders (ABL) Organization, on May 18th at The Sutton Place Hotel in Newport Beach, California, as ABL hosts its Seventh Annual Innovations in HealthcareSM Awards and Event.
In recognition of the dramatic turnaround and leadership that Thiry has brought to DaVita, he will headline the ABL event that honors Californias healthcare innovators who are dramatically improving the timely delivery of cost-effective, quality healthcare. DaVita currently provides kidney dialysis to some 54,000 patients with end stage renal disease in nearly 1000 dialysis centers located in outpatient centers and hospitals in 37 states and the District of Columbia.
When Thiry joined DaVita in October 1999, the company was basically bankrupt. Today, it enjoys annual revenue of nearly $2.3 billion and net income of more than $222 million. And last December, DaVita entered into an agreement (pending approval) to acquire Gambro Healthcare, Inc., which is among the nation's largest dialysis service providers, for approximately $3.05 billion in cash.
Thirys leadership in DaVita's dramatic turnaround has created a close-knit team of caregivers, physicians and patients. The company operates on seven core values: service excellence, integrity, team, continuous improvement, accountability, fulfillment, and fun. These values are exemplified in team-building measures such as profit sharing for virtually every employee; a significant investment in their personal and professional growth, including flexible work schedules and college scholarship programs; and annual reviews of all senior executives, including Thiry. DaVita is also notable for being the only national dialysis company with a wholly owned research facility, advancing the cause of better dialysis care. Further, patients can join DaVita Patient Citizens, an interest group designed to influence public policy on dialysis treatment issues.
Also to be showcased at ABLs Innovations in Healthcare will be nine companies selected by ABLs Technology Advisory Board from an array of organizations nominated for their innovative medical products, systems, processes and services designed to improve healthcare outcomes, while reducing the cost of providing quality care. Three of these honorees will be selected at the May 18th event to receive the ABBY Awards.
