Mediterranean International Conference on Brain Development and Neurological Disorders Announces Registration Deadline - August 15th
The conference will take place on September 4 - 7, 2005, in La Ciotat, France - one of the most beautiful places on Mediterranean.
(PRWEB) March 21, 2005 -- In the last decade enormous progress has been made in identifying chromosomal regions in linkage with various neurological disorders but the post genomic consequence of this information and its relation to the majority of sporadic cases remains misunderstood.
Environmental factors clearly participate in the aetiology and installation of the disorder but it is not clear yet whether they act merely as precipitating agents, always requiring an underlying genetic liability, or whether they represent an essential component of a pathogenetic process where genetic liability alone does not lead to the full-blown disease. This is particularly conspicuous with development related disorders in which the insult is due to alterations of one or more of the processes required for the construction of the brain: migration, differentiation, synapse formation etc. This debate has also important implications concerning the novel therapeutic strategies that should be used to reduce the consequences of the early insults.
"We shall confront the contributions of genetic and environmental factors and evaluate their interactions and the extent to which information obtained from one spectrum helps understanding the other. To put this discussion in a more general perspective, we shall also convey experts in the fields of brain and organ maturation, development of language and bird songs, in which significant advances have been made recently.
The dates have been selected to coincide with the end of the Paris International congress of the League against Epilepsy and to have as usual in La Ciotat a good weather," concluded Y. Ben-Ari.
