Former FBI Agent and 2002 Time Person of the Year, Coleen Rowley, will discuss her rise to success and the risks she took to help change the way the country investigates terror. Rowley will be the latest high-profile guest appearing on ÂWomen on the Move Thursday March, 24 2005 at 11AM Pacific (2PM Eastern) on the VoiceAmerica Channel (http://www.voice.voiceamerica.com/).
Fighting terror and strengthening intelligence is a major focus for government officials worldwide today. Few understand this better than FBI Agent Coleen Rowley. She served as the Chief Counsel of the FBI's Minneapolis field office. In a now famous 13-page memo, Rowley outlined how FBI headquarters thwarted agents' attempts to investigate Zacarais Moussaoui, the alleged 20th hijacker. The Âbombshell memo led bureau chief Robert Mueller to reorganize the agency and became the focal point of congressional probes into apparent intelligence failures prior to the terrorist attacks. Rowley later became the star witness testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the FBI bureaucracy and the events of 9/11.
Rowley grew up in small town Iowa. She joined the FBI as a Special Agent in 1980 after earning a law degree from the University of Iowa. In 1984 she was assigned to the New York Office and for over 6 years, she worked on Italian organized crime and Sicilian heroin drug investigations. Rowley is an avid tri-athlete and married mother of four.
ÂI am very excited talk with Coleen Rowley. She took personal and professional risks to make the country a safer place to be. That is true courage, said host Ember Reichgott Junge. ÂThe goal of my show is to challenge and engage women on all levelsÂfrom examining current events and their impact on women to sharing inspiring stories of womenÂs leadership, courage and vision from some of the nationÂs top movers and shakers leading the way for all women, just like Coleen.Â
