Black Marriage Day Celebration in New Orleans Acknowledged by the New Orleans City Council

The New Orleans City Council has acknowledged the importance of Black Marriage Day by recognizing March 27, 2005, as Black Marriage Day in New Orleans. Spiritual Grace Foundation(SGF) and Muhammad Mosque #46 have joined with several other churchs and organizations to celebrate the the city's first observance of Black Marriage Day.

New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) March 23, 2005 -- Spiritual Grace Foundation (SGF) and Muhammad Mosque #46 have initiated the first celebration of Black Marriage Day in New Orleans. SGF and Muhammad Mosque #46 have joined with several of New Orleans Healthy Marriage Initiative Programs, churches, and others to celebrate the joy of the institution of marriage. In fact, the New Orleans City Council has acknowledged the importance of Black Marriage Day by recognizing March 27, 2005, as Black Marriage Day in New Orleans. The celebration will begin at the Ashe Cultural Arts Center, 1712 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. at 10:00 A.M. . The observance will include a panel discussion, a Newly Wed and Not-So Newly Wed Game, a ceremony recognizing couples in the community that have reached significant milestones in their marriage, a renewal of vows ceremony, and a reception including wedding cakes for the community.
   
According to Nisa Islam Muhammad, the creator of the annual Black Marriage Day Celebration, last year on March 28, 2004, BMD was celebrated in over 70 cities.
        
Representatives from both Spiritual Grace Foundation and Muhammad Mosque #46 attended a press conference today with a host of organizations, and announced the Black Marriage Day Celebration that will take place in New Orleans. We are committed to promoting marriage with the fact that the children are the great beneficiaries of healthy marriages and we believe healthy marriages can solve numerous problems in the Black community.
