New Web site PowerVoter.org (powervoter.org) is a free public service which makes it easy for all Americans to understand the issues and make their opinions heard by their elected representatives. Interactive opinion polls organized by topic help representatives understand the hearts and minds of the people they serve -- in realtime, anytime. Open source development means all Americans can be part of the project and benefit from the increased transparency and communication PowerVoter can bring to our democracy.

California nonprofit The Loud and Clear Organization launched a significant upgrade to Web site PowerVoter.org (http://www.powervoter.org) to make it easy for all Americans to understand the issues and make their opinions heard by their elected representatives.

PowerVoter is a free public service offering powerful tools to help users quickly become more informed about the issues: recent headlines from mainstream and alternative online media sources, instant search capabilities from leading internet search engines, Web links to government information and research organizations, and more.

Users can register for a secure, anonymous account which activates the PowerVoter interactive opinion polls, giving users an easy way to let their elected representatives know how they feel about the issues. Representatives can use this information to better understand the hearts and minds of the people they serve -- in realtime, anytime.

"Social Security reform has been a hot issue," says project founder Freedom Scott Allen. "Our users want to let their representatives know what they think about it. We're also getting a lot of great suggestions for new issues and questions from around the country."

Public trust in PowerVoter comes from ownership and participation by the public -- online volunteers who help develop, secure and improve the project. Software source code is freely available to anyone through an open source license, placing development and oversight of the project directly into the hands of the people. Web site users are also encouraged to participate by suggesting new issues, opinion questions and Web links.

Representatives can use PowerVoter to test public approval for new initiatives and legislation. Organizations can create custom groups to collect opinion data from members or employees. Schools can conduct mock elections.

"No matter what your political beliefs, we all benefit from increased transparency and communication in our democracy," says Allen. "PowerVoter provides the tools voters need to get the facts and make their opinions heard."
