AAMU Music Student Austria Bound
A gifted soprano and vocal performance major at Alabama A&M University is one of a few students nationwide accepted to participate in a prestigious music program in Austria.
Huntsville, AL (PRWEB) March 24, 2005 -- Shonda Devine of Birmingham, Ala., and Atlanta, Ga., was recently informed that she was one of only forty singers accepted for participation in the University of Miami Frost School of Music at Salzburg College in Austria. The month-long program begins July 18. Devine submitted four vocal selections on tape that were evaluated by a panel of judges. Her repertoire included two German pieces, one in French and one in Italian.
This is what one would call 'an opportunity of a lifetime," said Richard F. Tucker, Devines music professor at AAMU. Tucker, whose affiliation with AAMU spans 35 years and literally thousands of students, commented that some 400 tapes were submitted for participation in the noted program. Its a blessing to be able to study in Europes famous City of Mozart."
I am overwhelmed," said Devine during a frequent visit to Tuckers second-floor office in the R.D. Morrison Fine Arts Building. Im shocked that Ive been able to accomplish this in such a brief time."
Devine left AAMU 10 years ago and decided to return during the 2004 fall semester. I definitely thank Mr. Tucker and AAMUs Music Department," added Devine. She believes Salzburg is a step toward even brighter opportunities.
Persons wishing to assist Devine in meeting the expenses associated with the trip can contact Professor Richard Tucker at (256) 372-4050.
