Brooklyn Poet Sings Out

BookSurge proudly announces the publication of My Soul is not for Sale, by Vaughn T. Aiken

MT. VERNON, NY (PRWEB) March 24, 2005 -- BookSurge announces the publication of My Soul is Not for Sale, by Vaughn T. Aiken.

According to New York Times Best-Selling Author Ellen Tanner Marsh, To the ever-growing art form that is African-American poetry we must now add the strong new voice of Brooklyn-born Vaughn T. Aiken."

Aikens poetry is a palette from which he has chosen hues of our emotions-rage and melancholy, hope and dismay-the words carrying us along, while daring us to take a closer and more honest look at love, war, and family.

Read his poem, Misunderstood, and find yourself questioning how we see ourselves in terms of race. Aiken doesnt hold back. Racial injustice and inequality tear at the heart of a society, leaving us diminished and disheartened. At the same time, the poet uses his craft to let us know that he has not allowed his life to be characterized by race.

There is a thread of emotion running through his poetry, and that emotion is anger. Why should he not be angry, when he lives in and shares our world, one populated by abusers and narrow-minded politicians? In his poem, The Seed, he writes about planting a seed within himself. Is this the seed of creativity... or one of compassion? And what a wonderful concept, that we can plant this seed and learn about ourselves. But Vaughn Aiken takes this concept one important step further, making us wonder what would happen if we could plant that seed in others and then, miraculously, everyone started to grow."
