DSLAM Equipment Market Growth Expected to Continue, 48.2 Million Ports Shipped During 2004

According to Dittberner's FY2004 Broadband Shipments Analysis, Worldwide DSLAM port shipments reached 48.2 million units in 2004, a significant percent increase from a year ago. DSL equipment growth is expected to continue for the next few quarters as a higher number of carriers enter deployment phase.

Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) March 25, 2005 -- According to Dittberner's FY2004 Broadband Shipments Analysis, Worldwide DSLAM port shipments reached 48.2 million units in 2004, a significant percent increase from a year ago. DSL equipment growth is expected to continue for the next few quarters as a higher number of carriers enter deployment phase.

According to the research, although the growth rates are leveling off as leading countries like South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong approach high levels of market penetration, the 2004 shipment results clearly demonstrate the enormous strength and growth potential for DSL elsewhere. Latin America has emerged as a major DSL market with Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Peru, experiencing more than 40% growth since the beginning of the year.

Alcatel (Nasdaq: ALA) strengthened its already dominant position with 41 percent of port shipments, followed by Huawei with 18.5 percent market share. Siemens (Nasdaq: SI), Lucent (Nasdaq: LU) and ECI Telecom (Nasdaq: ECIL) rounded the top five vendors, making 78.8 percent of the market, up from 67 percent a year ago.
