For the second straight year, Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. (PWLS) has selected two National Football League (NFL) clubs as "Pop Warner-NFL Team of the Year" recipients. The award, established in 2004, honors NFL clubs for their service to Pop Warner football and cheerleading programs across the country.

The 2005 Recipients are the Arizona Cardinals from the National Football Conference (AFC) and the Kansas City Chiefs from the American Football Conference (AFC). This past year, both teams demonstrated unparalleled commitment to the development of youth football in their surrounding areas. Many of the players, coaches, and staff made extra efforts in 2004 to reach the children of Pop Warner programs through events, charitable contributions, appearances, and various other activities. It is this sincere generosity that helps Pop Warner programs continue to develop.

"We greatly appreciate the support of both organizations and their commitment towards our Pop Warner programs," said Pop Warner Director of Media Relations Joel D. Balthaser. "They have continually increased their efforts over the years, and are certainly deserving of the Pop Warner-NFL Team of the Year Award."

Throughout 2004, the Cardinals made extra efforts to collaborate with the Arizona Youth Football Federation Pop Warner league using Gatorade Junior Training Camps, player appearances, charitable contributions, and also provided tickets to various Pop Warner teams for Cardinals home games. This also marks the second time in the last three seasons that the Cardinals have been recognized by Pop Warner. In 2003 Vice President and General Counsel Michael Bidwill was awarded the Glenn S. "Pop" Warner Award for his support of youth sports in Arizona.

This past year, the Chiefs have demonstrated their unparalleled commitment to the development of youth football in the Kansas City Area. Many of the players, coaches, and staff made extra efforts in 2004 to reach the children of Pop Warner programs through events such as the NFL/NFF Coaching Academy, charitable contributions, player and personnel appearances, as well as offering Chief’s tickets throughout the season to Pop Warner programs. Along with the Cardinals, the Chiefs have always been big supporters of the Pop Warner Program. Chief’s President, GM and CEO Carl Peterson serves as Chairman of the Pop Warner Board of Directors Advisory Committee, and received the Warner Award at the 2002 Pop Warner Banquet. That same year, running backs Priest Holmes and Tony Richardson received top honors for their service as well.

"What these two programs have done for Pop Warner is incredible," said Balthaser. "Many NFL clubs have dedicated time, resources and financial support to Pop Warner programs across America, but the Chiefs and the Cardinals have demonstrated this commitment above and beyond the status quo, and it feels good to give something back to them."

The 2005 Pop Warner-NFL Team of the Year awards will be presented to both teams at the 45th Annual Pop Warner Scholar All-American Banquet on Saturday, May 28 at the Hyatt Regency Orange County in Anaheim, CA.

Headquartered in Langhorne, PA., Pop Warner is the largest national youth football and cheerleading organization in the United States and the only youth sports organization that emphasizes academics as an equivalent to athletics. Currently there are over 380,000 children in Pop Warner organizations in 43 states, Guam, Germany, Russia, Scotland, Japan and Mexico.
