New Wine Preservation Method Saves Restaurants Hundreds of Dollars in Tossed Product
Vineyard Fresh, a time-proven preservation method with a new twist
Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) March 26, 2005 -- Introducing Vineyard Fresh, an old idea in a new bottle, and a godsend for all restaurant owners who are sick of tossing their good wine after only a few days or having glasses returned by unsatisfied consumers. VineyardFresh is an innovative and proprietary product that preserves a bottle of wine with a protective coating of argon and nitrogen and is packaged in a convenient, elegant, burgundy bottle. The gas will keep wine fresh for up to six months. Just one bottle of VineyardFresh will preserve up to 120 bottles of wine, a total preservation cost of less than 8 cents per bottle. Preventing one returned glass or one glass poured down the drain pays for a full canister.
How does it work? Oxygen causes wine to deteriorate. It slowly eats away at the wine through a process called oxidation. Although the oxygen is constantly working" on the wine turning it more acidic from the moment it is opened, it only becomes noticeable when a persons palate detects the change. Two quick bursts of VineyardFresh into an open bottle of wine forms a harmless barrier between the wine and the air, preventing oxidation.
The VineyardFresh gas that protects the wine is an inert mixture of nitrogen and argon. It is natural, odorless, tasteless, and colorless. Argon and nitrogen work together to prevent oxidation using a combination of chemistry and physics. Nitrogen is lighter than oxygen and is used to slightly purge the oxygen away from the wine. Then, the heavier argon sweeps into the void left by the retreating oxygen and forms a barrier that will not interact with the wine.
When asked how they came up with the idea, Dave Hall, one of VineyardFresh founders, said, Its one of those problems that everyone just seems to take as an inevitable fact of life: Wine spoils when its been left out too long.
But its exactly those kinds of problems that give rise to the greatest inventions. My business partner and I were eating at this great little steak house by the office, and somehow it came up that the restaurant had an institutional gas system to preserve their wine. We thought: Why cant something like that be available on a smaller scale? We were already in the aerosol business, so the product was a perfect fit. We started penning plans and sketching the product design right there on the dinner napkins."
Restaurant and bar owners will soon be ordering Vineyard Fresh as part of their required inventory as they discover the many benefits contained in this little bottle. Profit margins are increased when each bottle is used to the last drop. Customers will always receive a fresh glass of wine, and wine selection can be broadened when owners do not have to be concerned about using each bottle in just a few days. Lastly, restaurant owners wont have to worry about reducing their customer satisfaction rate when disgruntled customers return sour glasses of wine.
VineyardFresh has paid attention to every detail of its product, including the packaging. Theres no reason for VineyardFresh not to belong right beside the wine rack next to the choicest of vintages," says David Hall, cofounder of VineyardFresh. We put a lot of thought into the visual appeal of the product because we dont want it to be one of those bar items that owners had to hide underneath some cabinet. Managers will want to display this, even sell the retail version at their gift counters."
VineyardFresh sells for about $8 and is available through approved wine distributors or by calling VineyardFresh. Currently, VineyardFresh is being distributed in Chicago, Washington, DC and Northeast Ohio. The main VineyardFresh distribution center is located in Cleveland, Ohio.
