The American Red Cross Selects Pearson Performance Solutions to Develop Strategic Disaster Response Learning Program

Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism Training to be deployed to 90,000 individuals across the U.S.

Pearson Performance Solutions (PPS), a leading provider of strategic workforce solutions, today announced that it has been awarded a contract with the American Red Cross to design and deploy a national training program for the staff and volunteers of non-governmental organizations (NGO) active in disaster response to incidents of Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism (WMD/T). The WMD/T response training program is being developed as part of a $6.5 million competitive training grant awarded to the American Red Cross by the Department of Homeland Security - Office for Domestic Preparedness (ODP).

PPS and the American Red Cross will work together on the design of the training program and upon its completion the training will be deployed to nearly 90,000 individuals affiliated with NGOs active in disaster response in 30 major U.S. communities.

1.    Increase the awareness about the threats and characteristics of a WMD/T incident

2.    Improve the preparedness of staff and volunteers in responding to a WMD/T incident

3.    Provide learning and performance improvement resources that can be used on a continuing basis across state and local jurisdictions

The key components of this program are expected to include six customized online learning courses, train-the-trainer materials and essential leave-behind resources.
