Biosignetics Believes it Can Help in Terry Schiavo Case by Analyzing Brain Waves
Biosignetics is a new science of analyzing dynamic biometric signals. We can process Energy Signature patterns of Terri Schiavos cortical brain waves and to objectively gauge her brain signal responses. Our current research is focused on Brainwave Analysis, Heart Murmurs and Heart Sounds.
(PRWEB) March 26, 2005 -- Biosignetics is a biomedical startup company located in Exeter, New Hampshire. http://www.bsignetics.com/news.htm
"Just a year ago, we had invented and introduced new research methodology to analyze biomedical signals, including the brain waves. It is currently patent pending.", says Dr. V. Polyshchuk of Biosignetics. "We can analyze dynamic biomedical signals, such as brainwaves or heart sounds, can extract a lot of useful information about patient medical conditions," he added.
Company had been semi-finalist of the prestigious Advanced Technology Program competition managed by NIST and funded by US Congress. Recently, company was featured in the New Hampshire Life Sciences Magazine and at www.nhbiotech.com Its research was originated and inspired from work conducted in early and mid 90s for the benefits of helicopter health monitoring. It was recently extended to study heart murmurs, cardiac auscultation and cortical brain wave responces. http://www.bsignetics.com/Brain%20Printing.htm
Biosignetics researchers were able to clearly differentiate agitated brain state from the calm brain state. To conduct such an analysis EEC cortical brain waves must be collected and digitized. EEC recordings are routinely collected from patients in many hospitals and outpatient neuro facilities. Company researchers were also able to clearly differentiate baby cry sounds as baby agitation state is building up. Recently, another researcher had introduced a concept of brain fingerprinting. It is based on the fact that brain immediately responds to visual images it sees with so called P300 waves. Usually brain operates on the narrow band of frequencies between 5 to 15Hz.
"We believe we may have the technology to objectively, clearly and visually differentiate Terri Schiavos state by analyzing her brainwaves.", indicated Dr. V. Kudriavtsev. Even subtle changes in brain patterns can be detected using Brain Energy Signature methodology and brain pattern responces can also be quantified. This in time may even lead to a primitive "thought translator". P300 brain wave patterns will change in response to positive-negative actions, and we may be able to quantify these responses precisely.
Judge Greer and Michael Schiavo can use this new technology to estimate current Terry Schiavo's brain status.
More research will be required in this area with respect to persistent vegetative state or minimal awareness state and company scientists are looking for neuroscientists to jointly collaborate in this research effort.
Other methods that may help to quantify Terri's brain state may be based on Aspect Medical Systems Bispectral Index that is now used in anesthesia care. http://www.aspectms.com/assets/Documents/pdf/bibliography/085-0036-ComprehensiveBISBibMarch04.pdf
