Overqualified for Your Clown Shoes Job? Take the Plunge and Start Working from Home

Unemployment has driven many qualified workers to take whatever tedious jobs they can find. But, finding themselves in deadbeat jobs with abusive corporations who nickel and dime them, many rankled employees quit to start their own home businesses.

(PRWEB) March 31, 2005 -- "My *** Job is *** clown shoes! Basically, my job can be done by someone with the intellect of a melon." says one, who for obvious reasons stays anonymous. It is a frustration echoed by many workers buried in infradig nine to five jobs with the benefit of a less than adequate paycheck.

Their situation is exacerbated by long-term unemployment statistics, and the fear that any job is better than none. Of the eight million workers classified as unemployed by the Labor Department, 1.74 million or 21.7%, had been out of work longer than six months. In fact, unemployment lasts on average about twenty weeks.

Serendipitously, a new type of business is booming. Newly released U.S. Census data shows a 23% increase in the number of home-based workers. But for the unwary the pitfalls can be serious".

Looking for a new business is tough because you can get caught up in the hype. The company No XQses who research home business opportunities recommends the following:

Probably the biggest challenge of starting a home based business (HBB) is separating the Home from the Business. Get a professional organizer, to set up the space or set it up yourself creating a functional office space.

You have to treat your home business like a business first. The fact that it happens to be run from home should be incidental. You need to treat it like an office 'away from the office'. No kids crying or dogs barking. As enjoyable as it is to work with a dog at your feet, and being able to pop in and check up on homework, don't let these interrupt your work flow or professionalism when dealing with clients.

Another factor is the cost of entry, both in terms of time, finances, planning and energy. You wouldnt expect to launch a real business with a couple of hundred dollars, no plan and no support system, so why would a home business be any different? Look for companies that provide training and support.

Does the company offer a way to utilize the power of leverage, in effect other peoples resources or talents to expand the scope and potential of the home business? It can get very lonely when theres no water cooler to go to and virtually no support system in place. If youre a one man or woman show the potential of the business is tied directly to the number of hours in your day. There are ways to utilize the power of leverage.

Ultimately, quite simply, measure your love and passion for your product or service, and the inevitable paths you will cross in the course of doing business. If you hate what youre doing and whom youre doing it with – your business is doomed.

Be weary of any opportunity that offers to get you in and making a ton of money for a miniscule entry fee. Youve got to stop thinking like an employee if youre going to be the boss. Like most real life businesses, your home business should be about ROI. (Return on Investment). So the focus is squarely on the return not merely on the investment. Your time is the most important part of the investment because it is irreplaceable.

With careful planning your home business can make money. So by all means - Push the reset button on your life! Fire your boss and invest your talents in yourself and your family."
