Clark McKay and Walpole gains a stake in the North as marketing services group Media Square rebrands its Banc Leeds agency as Clark McKay & Walpole North.

Clark McKay and Walpole today announces its expansion into the North of England. The news comes in the week that the agency marks its tenth anniversary. Integrated agency, BANC Leeds, will be re-branded Clark McKay and Walpole North. Both Clark McKay and Walpole and BANC Leeds are part of Media Square plc (“Media Square”), the fast-growing AIM-listed marketing communications and marketing services group.

Clark McKay and Walpole joined Media Square in September 2004. The partnership facilitates the agency’s desire to grow its brand at an ambitious pace. The move into Leeds marks the first stage of the agency’s growth strategy, which includes broadening the agency’s offering in areas such as sales promotion.

BANC Leeds enjoys an excellent reputation as a successful business with strong digital credentials. Its twelve man team manages an enviable client list including Durex, Procter & Gamble, The Kingspan Group and Silent Night.

Gail Dudleston joins Clark McKay and Walpole North as managing director. Clark McKay and Walpole executive creative director Steve Walpole will work closely with the team at BANC Leeds to add creative gravitas and to lead the creative direction of the agency.

Jonathan Clark explains the benefits of this development for both parties:” BANC Leeds is a great agency which can benefit from the experience and scale of Clark McKay and Walpole. Our plan is to build the Leeds operation into a force to be reckoned with in the North, in a very short time. Clark McKay and Walpole’s reputation is built around creativity centred around real consumer insight. I can think of no one better than our executive creative director, Steve Walpole to lead this process and ensure that our values and core competences including our standards of creative excellence are translated with his characteristic rigour, passion and enthusiasm across all work.”

Jonathan Clark adds: “The North of England is growing exponentially as a major business influence with strengths in a range of sectors such as financial services, fmcg, mail order and travel. Clark McKay and Walpole’s presence in the North represents excellent opportunities for both our employees and clients in London and Leeds alike and we expect to see a great deal of exchange and cross fertilisation of ideas.”

Commenting on the announcement, Jeremy Middleton, Media Square’s chief executive, said: “Since we partnered with Clark McKay and Walpole over six months ago we have been impressed by the calibre of the senior management team. I can think of no one better placed to drive our Leeds operation to the next level and ensure that the Clark McKay and Walpole brand becomes a byword for creative excellence in the North of England.”
