Cooperative advertising boutique, Lakonic, is among other smaller Chicago agencies finding success in the rough Chicago climate. In response to their accelerated growth, Lakonic seeks talent and larger facilities as the calendar quarter comes to the end.

The expansion is fueled by multiple project wins and, most recently, global news that their client, Urchin Software Corp. — for whom Lakonic (alongside Urchin’s in-house marketing team) developed the “Deep Analytics. Dive In.” identity and campaign — is being acquired by Google.

“We are very much excited for the Urchin team,” said Merrick, president and founder of Lakonic. “Due to the confidential conditions of the acquisition, the continuation of our relationship remains uncertain; however we are truly pleased to have been a part of Urchin’s history, growth and wish them the best, no matter the outcome. I will continue to watch the headlines and, likely, bribe them for a tour of the Googleplex.”

News of the acquisition came as Lakonic sealed two new client wins, making three additions in just over two weeks.

Among them, Lakonic is teaming up with Symmetri Marketing Group (http://www.symmetri-mg.com), a team of sales, marketing and creative professionals based in Chicago, on a group of Motorola projects. Details on the agreement have not been disclosed.

“This year is already showing a lot of promise for growth,” said Merrick. “We look forward to bringing on additional staff and finding our new home.”
