Security Expert Slashes Fees to Fight Identity Theft
Nationally known security expert Robert A. Gardner, CPP announces fee reduction to help vulnerable businesses fight identity theft.
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) April 2, 2005 -- With Identity Theft rapidly approaching epidemic levels, one nationally recognized security and crime prevention expert is making a personal financial commitment to help bring the problem under control.
Robert A. Gardner, CPP, a Board Certified" security consultant, private investigator and former police crime prevention supervisor with offices in Ventura, CA and Las Vegas, NV, has announced that his firm will dramatically reduce its fees for certain business oriented identity theft prevention services. Beginning immediately, Gardners firm will reduce its base hourly consultation rate by 50% and waive all travel related expenses for qualified businesses seeking assistance to improve the protection of confidential identity and other personal data in their possession.
Any small business without an in-house security department that routinely collects and stores client, customer, or employee identity data, financial data, medical history or other sensitive personal information in the course of its normal operation can qualify for the discount as long as it is located in southern Nevada or southern or central California. Businesses in other areas of California and Nevada and in Arizona may also qualify for the reduced rates but travel expenses will not be waived.
According to Gardner, Thousands of businesses, including many that arent normally thought of as data collectors, regularly collect and store confidential personal information. Examples include any business regardless of type that accepts credit applications or maintains a membership roster. This means that such unlikely businesses as fitness centers, video rental stores, car dealers, doctors, lawyers and a host of others may actually pose a threat to their customer's identy. Unfortunately, most of these businesses have done little to adequately safeguard that information. While we occasionally hear about a high profile data theft such the ongoing ChoicePoint debacle or the recent Department of Motor Vehicles burglary in North Las Vegas, business burglaries actually happen every day but rarely make the news. In a growing number of instances those burglaries are for the sole purpose of stealing identity information. Businesses that fail to adequately safeguard identity data open themselves to a myriad of problems including civil liability, loss of customer confidence and in some cases criminal sanctions."
Gardner views his unusual offer as a public service which he hopes will encourage potentially vulnerable businesses to develop proactive protection programs for the sensitive and valuable information entrusted to them. He also hopes that other qualified and properly licensed security consultants will follow his lead and begin offering similar services in the cities they serve.
