(PRWEB) April 5, 2005 -- Letters from the Woods, by Raleigh, North Carolina author and attorney Michael C. Hurley (Ragbagger Publishing c. 2005), has been awarded Honorable Mention in the inspirational category of the Annual Writers Digest International Self-Published Book Awards competition. In a letter to the author dated March 28, 2005, Writers Digest editor Kristen Godsey commented that the competition was especially tough this year. The awards will be announced in the August issue of Writers Digest and posted on the magazines website at that time. 2005 marks the twelfth year Writer's Digest has collected the best self-published books to give international exposure to those that achieve excellence in one of nine genres.
According to the judges written review of Letters from the Woods, the overall quality of the book is outstanding." They found it to be inspiring on a variety of levels--personal integrity, family values, love of nature and respect for the environment, spiritual consciousness," and respect for human beings." Just reading this book," the judges wrote, will make the reader a better person. . . . It should be of interest to outdoor enthusiasts, sports nuts, and environmentalists--to say nothing of anyone looking for inspiration and adventure. This book covers them all! Its a winner!"
Hurley, who collected the essays, illustrations, and photos in the book from eight years of his quarterly journal on wilderness canoeing, said he didn't set out to create an "inspirational" work. He is happy that so many seem to take inspiration from it, and he is especially surprised and flattered to receive this recognition.
