Spring Ahead

Get Productive with Your Life; Reduce Stress and Achieve More Than You Ever Thought Possible

(PRWEB) April 6, 2005 -- The New Year isnt the only time to evaluate our goals and resolutions; spring represents new beginnings" and an opportunity to reinvent yourself. After a long, dark, cold winter, the warm weather combined with the long sunshiny days can add a little kick to your step and give you a boost. As Zig Ziglar would say, its like going through a revolving door on somebody elses push."

With 68% of Americans believing that they would be happiest this year by making progress on their goals, its up to you to grab onto this extra energy and take the steps to achieve them. Only 9% of individuals are actively doing something to achieve their goals. Whether your New Years resolutions have fallen by the wayside or not, if you truly want to spring ahead", you need to evaluate your goals every quarter," said Gail Kasper, author of the goal-setting audio CD program, Make a Decision to Win. She offers these life-changing tips to get yourself on track and achieve a productive stress-free year.

1. Get organized at work and at home. When we hear the words spring-cleaning" we think of cleaning every corner. We imagine a perfectly straightened closet, an impeccable junk drawer, and a spotless home. Spring-cleaning represents the extra effort that you put into organization. And when you are organized, you feel better about yourself and you are more efficient and effective in managing your life. The average American spends several hours per week searching for things, whether its a phone number or a document, but because you have developed an organized system, you will have more time, your stress will decrease, and your energy level will increase.

2. Schedule solitude time. Whether you need to wait until the kids head out for school or you sit in your car, get alone with your thoughts. This alone time will not only allow you to get in touch with what you want out of life but it will also drive ideas. It takes about 20 minutes to get into the creative mode so turn off the telephones, sit in silence, and make a list of all of your short and long term goals. Dont grade your answers, just let them flow. Ask yourself, What is the one thing I would like to accomplish over the next 6 months?"

3. Identify the priorities. Within this list, pick the 3 things that if you accomplished them would produce the greatest positive results in your life. If you try to focus on everything, nothing will get accomplish, so be practical and realistic. Practicality will keep you moving in a positive direction and being realistic will keep your stress level down.

4. Eliminate clutter. This does not refer to physical objects; Im talking about the clutter of day-to-day activities. If you are consumed with day-to-day activities, it is very difficult to see and focus on your goals and whats important in your life. To eliminate clutter, get your daily planning system and incorporate your goals. Often we use our daily planning system for the day-to-day activities, but not the goals so we never get an opportunity to focus on whats truly important.

5. Dont wait to get started. Goals are a process and you need time to achieve them. When you wait until last minute to get started, you set yourself up for failure. If you have been thinking about getting into shape for summer, saving for the future, or even taking a class, then get started right now. We have to create our future and it takes time to create a future that will bring ultimate personal contentment.

6. Get outside and enjoy the sun. Weve all experienced the depression of a gloomy day. It drains your energy. On the other hand, sunlight makes you feel good; it also makes you want to be productive. One study indicated that children learn faster and do better in classrooms with more daylight. A related study found work environments are no different where stores with skylights had a 40% increase in sales. Not only does direct sunlight increase your learning skills and productivity, but it produces Vitamin D which prevents depression. It will make feel positive and energized to keep moving.

7. Make achieving goals fun. If its work, its much harder to do. Think of ways to have fun achieving your goals whether its setting extraordinary risks, involving friends, enjoying the sun, or exploring opportunities outside your city limit to achieve those goals.
